We currently have a great opportunity for a Cook to join our Care Plus team at The Sandford Nursing Home, Church Stretton, Shropshire on a part-time, permanent basis.

The Role

As a Cook. you will manage the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, including ordering supplies, maintaining hygiene and safety standards, planning menus that meet dietary needs, and actively participating in food preparation and kitchen cleanliness.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Health and Safety requirements within a kitchen environment and will ensure all staff follow best practices. Responsibilities include proper storage, preparation, and cooking of food in line with food hygiene standards, ensuring all items are used within their prescribed dates. You will work closely with the Home Manager to plan a four-week rolling menu, considering the dietary needs and preferences of individual clients. Attention to detail and responsiveness to feedback regarding food and menus are essential. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a kitchen cleaning schedule, ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of all kitchen equipment, and taking an active role in food preparation and kitchen hygiene.

The hours of work for this role are between 06:00 - 16:00 two days per week. This role will work on a rota basis which will include weekends and bank holidays

Skills and experience required:

  • Hold current and suitable food hygiene certificate (Level 2+)
  • Recent substantial experience of working within a kitchen
  • Experience of managing a team and kitchen management
  • Food preparation experience
  • Organisation and planning skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literate, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • A commitment to and understanding of good customer service
  • Ability to carry out duties of a physical nature other than light lifting
  • Ability to commute within no more than 1 hour distance of the role location
  • Due to the nature of this post, the role is subject to an Enhanced with Adult Barred DBS disclosure.
